THU Hosts Contest in Smart Manufacturing Big Data Analysis

After a month-long preliminary, 57 teams from all over the country take on the challenge in the finals in the 2019 National Contest in Smart Manufacturing Big Data Analysis, aiming for the NTD 500K prize. The final competition was held at Tunghai University on September 21, 2019.

During his welcome remarks, President Wang emphasized the importance of AI talents in response to the fast-evolving intelligent systems. Tunghai University has set up the Cloud Innovation School together with Amazon AWS since 2018 to incubate cross-disciplinary AI talents. Besides encouraging the participating teams to enjoy the competition and to demonstrate team work, innovation and creativity, President Wang thanks the government agencies for administrative support and the companies for providing industrial data for the contest.

The Contest this year has seen a growth of 28% from last year in the preliminary phase, marking a total of 600 participants. Members of the 57 teams who made their way to the final phase will have the chance of joining one of the sponsoring companies. Through joint efforts from the public agencies and the private sector, the contest sets a new cooperation model between the academia and the industry to help strengthen the momentum in big data analysis for smart manufacturing. Industrial sponsors this year include HiWin, Gongin, Tongtai, AIDC, and ITRC.
