Along with four keynote speakers: Head of Taichung City Government Economic Development Bureau Feng-Yuan Chang, former Premier Chong Chen, National Taiwan University Professor Tian-Chi Chen, and Jardine Ventures Chairman Bo-Yuan Wang, there were seven topics thoroughly discussed in the two-day seminar. They were: the impact of COVID-19 on the world economy, the response and transformation of Taiwan’s industry after COVID-19, the challenges and opportunities of Taiwan’s service industry after COVID-19, the new markets and business opportunities in the post-COVID-19 era, the reorganization of cross-strait and regional economic and trade relations after COVID-19, the impact of the US-China confrontation on Taiwan’s economy, and the roundtable forum on domestic and foreign political and economic trends after COVID-19. Each topic was hosted by renowned experts, moderators, and panelists from all professional domains.

According to Chairman Chi Su, the Taipei Forum was founded by Mr. Jian-Ren Cheng in 1982. It is a cross-party, interdisciplinary, non-profit think tank. It had succeeded in holding a record seminar which members of both KMT and DPP, as well as scholars from China and the United States, gathered together to discuss Asian and cross-strait issues and generated fulfilling results. No think tank in Taiwan has ever been able to break the record. Chairman Su hoped the seminar would gather opinions from experts from all domains to prepare for the post-pandemic economic challenges.

Deputy Mayor Linghu invited recommendations from all fields for the City government to take into future administration considerations. He also pointed out that with proper relief policies in place, Taichung ranked number one in five of the six economic indexes for the second quarter of 2020 and had attracted a leading 156 investment filings this year, creating more that 1500 job opportunities.
