President of the University of Rhode Island Visits Tunghai University

President David M. Dooley of the US University of Rhode Island and Professor Zhi Hong Wang of URI Department of Industrial Engineering, an alumnus of THU, visited Tunghai University on October 31, 2019. The purpose of the visit was to review the status of cooperation between the two institutions and to make further planning on the future direction and possible expansion of the long-term cooperation. A renewal of cooperation memorandum was also signed during the visit.

Following the signature signing, President Dooley and several THU faculty members including vice President Li Zhi Wang, Dean Hong Ji Chen of College of Management, Dean Wen Dian Chen of College of Social Sciences, Dean. James Sims of International College, Director Yao Xun Hong of Promotion Department, and Chief International Officer Dr. Annie Y. Tsai exchanged ideas on the cooperation between the two universities. The discussion started with President Dooley introducing the environment and academic features of University of Rhode Island and sharing his observations on the results of the cooperation. For the past three years, many THU students had participated in URI summer workshops, and students from URI had come to THU for the dual-degree program, where in four of them have already received their degrees with fruitful results.

The University of Rhode Island from the United States is a public research university founded in 1892. Its main campus is located in Kingston. Other campuses including Feinstein Campus in Providence, the Narragansett Bay Campus in Narragansett, and the W. Alton Jones Campus in West Greenwich. The university is registered with 14,546 undergraduates and 4,549 graduate students studying in more than 100 undergraduate department and over 80 graduate institutions. In 2015, the University of Rhode Island was posiitioned No.161 in the ranking of national universities by the U.S. News & World Report.
