Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a press conference on September 29th, 2020 to announce the launching of the “MOFA Taiwan-Czech Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program” next year. Only 7 universities were selected to participate in this program including Tunghai University, National Cheng Kung University, National Chengchi University, National Tsing Hua University, National Sun Yat-sen University, Providence University, and Fu Jen Catholic University. to announce the launching of the “MOFA Taiwan-Czech Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program” next year
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Deputy Minister Harry Ho-jen Tseng, indicated in the conference that MOFA will offer a total of 50 quotas for Czech students coming to Taiwan to learn Chinese in order to promote the cooperation between Taiwan and Czech Universities. This is also one of the achievements of Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil’s visit in early September. Minster Tseng also expressed appreciation for the representatives from the seven Taiwan universities. Some of the universities have been working closely with the Czech universities in the past years. Their Chinese Language Centers also received excellent teaching reputation from the Ministry of Education. Through his program, Minister Tseng hopes Czech students can build the connection between Taiwan and Czech higher education to strengthen the culture exchanges and share their experiences about Taiwan.

The rector of the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, also joined the press conference via online meeting. He sincerely thanked MOFA for establishing this scholarship program and hoped to continue promoting the collaboration in education after the pandemic.

Chief International Officer Tsai, said that she is very grateful for MOFA’s efforts, which helped increase the number of Tunghai University’s Czech partner university from one to four. Tunghai welcomes Czech students to visit and encourages the co-research and development in the science and engineering field. Tunghai is well-known for its liberal arts education, and therefore, hopes Czech students can have cross culture exchanges when they study in Tunghai.
Czech student Karolina Romanowska mentioned that it is her third time coming to Taiwan. She visited Taiwan in 2017 for the first time as an exchange student. The people in Taiwan were very kind and warmhearted. They were always happy to chat with her in Chinese. This is also one of her motivations to continue learning Chinese. She claims that she will return to Taiwan in the future.
