On December 19th, three Tunghai students enrolled in French courses offered by FLLD. They attended the second national French speech contest (第二屆法語口才大賽) organized by the French Teachers Association (法語教師協會). The contest was organized with the support of the French Office in Taipei (法國在台協會).
This year the contest took place at National Taiwan Normal University. Students from twelve universities were competing in four categories (two poetry recitation categories, debate and speech).
Tunghai students performed excellently ranking second ex-aequo with students from National Taiwan University and just behind FuJen university. Student Claire Zhou (周澍瑄) declaimed Paul Éluard's poem "Liberté". With her elegant rendering of the poem she won the third prize of the beginner category. Student Leslie Chen (陳政揚) recited very convincingly another famous poem by Éluard intitled "Courage". He ranked second in the advanced beginner category. Student Juan Miguel Rodríguez Salomón competed in the very challenging debate category and attained 6th place. Students were preselected and coached by FLLD assistant professor Bruno Galmar and teaching assistant Claire Saint-Guily.
